Union Square Campus Inc. has selected the Greensboro NC firm Moser Mayer Phoenix Associates, PA (MMPA) to design its first building.
“This is a legacy project for our firm,” says Kenneth C. Mayer, Jr., FAIA, principal of Moser Mayer Phoenix; “that will have a transformative effect in expanding Greensboro’s downtown footprint. While much of our previous work has influenced downtowns and higher education campuses throughout North Carolina and Virginia; the Union Square Campus brings together all the things we are passionate about as a firm; with the added bonus of it being here in our hometown.”
The site is currently owned by the City of Greensboro/Redevelopment Commission and is part of a larger area revitalization effort.
Training and education for healthcare professions – primarily nursing — will comprise this first building, with these initial key stakeholder/tenants: UNCG, NCA&T, GTCC, and Cone Health. By housing programs together, they can share lab space and equipment at significant cost savings.
A state-of-the-art healthcare simulation center will be a key component of the project. MMPA will partner with Kahler Slater, a Wisconsin-based design firm with a specialized and international practice that focuses specifically on learning environments which support health science education – including nursing, medical, dental and allied health professions. Their extensive experience includes designing laboratories, active learning classrooms, research and clinical spaces for colleges and universities around the country.
Moser Mayer Phoenix Associates, PA was established in 1986 and is a full-service design firm led by William D. Moser, AIA Kenneth C. Mayer, FAIA Thomas H. Phoenix, FASHRAE, and Alan Cox, AIA. The firm has served as the lead architects for several downtown Greensboro projects such as the NewBridge Bank Park, J. Douglas Galyon Multimodal Depot, and CenterPointe.
